| Our History
During the early winter months of 1969,
in the Union Hill Community Club House, a
new church was growing and being formulated.
Culmination of this organism reached its
zenith when, on September 7, 1969, Calvary
Baptist Temple (now known as Calvary Baptist
Church) was constituted. Brother Donald
Richards, who had guided the formation of
the church through the early months, was
called as the pastor. With eighty members,
work was begun on a building to house the
congregation. The property for the building
was given by Mr. & Mrs. A. K. Wilkie and
their home, "The Wilkie House", is still
located at the front of the Calvary Baptist
Church property today.
With the continual growth of the membership
and the fast erection of the building, the
first service was held on Thanksgiving
evening in November 1969. The rapid growth
continued, so much so, that in June 1971 a
new education building was added onto the
back of the original Calvary Baptist church
building. Shortly afterwards, a bus ministry
was added with the purchase of buses and
vans to serve the ever-growing needs of the
local areas of Cherokee and Forsyth
counties. In June 1970, another twenty-one
acres of land was purchased for future
development. A Pastorium was purchased on
adjoining property in November 1973. Then,
in April 1975, as a Faith project, a new
youth center and physical education building
was constructed on the property.
God's presence, guidance and strength has
always been with the church and we give Him
all the praise, honor and glory for all that
has been done.
